Neue iranische Friedensinitiative

Zwei Mittelstreckenraketen in Iran tragen israelfeindliche Aufschriften.

Proteste untersagt

von Thomas von der Osten-Sacken

Wer auch gegen anti-Assad Proteste ist:

Today, the anti-Assad protest movement faced a new challenge. A big anti-Assad demonstration in the city of Idlib was crushed this morning by Nusra militants. Demonstrators were threatened with gunfire and some protesters were beaten while media activists’ cameras were smashed. Nusra fighters stomped and wiped their shoes on the green Revolution flags and told the crowd that protests were forbidden.

Wie wär es, man zahlte Putin, Khamenei und Assad (warum nicht auch dem zukünftigen Dialogpartner ISIS?) auch noch je drei Milliarden, damit sie einfach weniger Flüchtlinge produzieren?

The European Union and Turkey have settled on an additional 3 billion euros in funds to combat the influx of migrants to the bloc while also reaching a deal on visa-free in tough talks at an extended summit in Brussels on March 7.

Zurück auf der Straße

Aus Syrien:

Street protests erupted across insurgent-held areas of Syria on Friday, as demonstrators took advantage of the relative lull in airstrikes during a partial truce, coming out in the largest numbers seen in years to declare that even after five punishing years of war they still wanted political change.

Under the slogan “The Revolution Continues,” demonstrators waved the green, white and black pre-Baathist flag adopted during the early, largely peaceful stages of the revolt, before the proliferation of armed Islamist factions with black jihadist banners.

104 Demonstrationen gegen das Assad-Regime wurden heute in Syrien gezählt:

Statistics in Syria are usually depressing death tolls followed by ?#?HowManyMore?? Not today. 104 protests today across Syria calling for freedom & the downfall of the brutal Assad regime.

Russisch-Amerikanische Kooperation

von Thomas von der Osten-Sacken

Eine neue Partnerschaft:

To put it in even more concrete terms, the administration is leveraging Putin’s brutal military campaign to extract political concessions from the opposition that are tantamount to an effective surrender. And if they didn’t hurry and sign that surrender now, as Kerry reportedly told them, the Russian bombing is just going to get worse, and in three months, they’ll be decimated; the clock is ticking, folks. (…)

The United States is now partnering with Russia to line NATO’s southern border with a consortium of terrorist militias protected by Russian air power and armed with advanced weapons. The message is hard to miss: The old American security treaties, like NATO, that were once the cornerstone of global security arrangements, are barely worth the paper they are printed on.

Islamistische Angst vor der Kolonialisierung:

The Women’s Protection Act, passed by Pakistan’s largest province of Punjab last week, gives unprecedented legal protection to women from domestic, psychological and sexual violence. It also calls for the creation of a toll-free abuse reporting hot line and the establishment of women’s shelters.

But since its passage in the Punjab assembly, many conservative clerics and religious leaders have denounced the new law as being in conflict with the Muslim holy book, the Koran, as well as Pakistan’s constitution.

“The whole law is wrong,” Muhammad Khan Sherani, the head of the Council of Islamic Ideology said at a news conference, citing verses from the Koran to point out that the law was “un-Islamic.” (…)

Fazlur Rehman, the chief of one of Pakistan’s largest religious parties, the Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam, said the law was in conflict with both Islam and the constitution of Pakistan.

“This law makes a man insecure,” he told journalists. “This law is an attempt to make Pakistan a Western colony again.”

Jubel in Benghazi

von Thomas von der Osten-Sacken

Libyans took to the streets in Benghazi on Tuesday, honking car horns and waving Libyan flags in celebration after army units, backed by civilian fighters, cleared a major part of this eastern city of Islamic extremists, following nearly two years of deadly fighting.

The rare celebration comes hours after troops earlier in the day pushed into the once populous district of al-Laithi, a stronghold of Islamic militias who withdrew within hours. Over the past days, the army had made important advances and on Monday took control of a strategic port and a hospital.

Later Tuesday, families displaced from al-Laithi flooded back into the district to revisit their homes while others first waited for soldiers to inspect their houses for booby traps. Residents posted photographs on social networking sites, showing tearful mothers bowing on the ground in front of their houses.

Others hugged their sons who returned from the front lines. Streets of al-Laithi were largely blocked by large containers and sand bags used as defenses. In some of the buildings, personal belongings of the militiamen and Islamic militants lay scattered about after they retreated hurriedly.
